Russian classics in rock

On July 2 and 3 in the Green Theater at VDNKh within the framework of I. Sandler's progressive rock music festival " SANDLERFEST" a unique stage "Russian Classics in Rock" will appear, which will open up opportunities for a new reading of well-known works of Russian academic music. For the first time romances by S. Rachmaninov, arias by P. Tchaikovsky, choral fragments by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, opera and symphonic compositions by M. Mussorgsky, S. Prokofiev, N. Glinka, as well as Russian folk songs will be performed in a rock version at the festival and will allow true rock connoisseurs to rediscover the works of Russian classics, and for adepts of classical music will become guides to the world of rock. The concerts will also feature Russian rock classics performed by opera singers along with rock and pop singers.

On July 2, the concerts will feature renowned opera singers, laureates of the Elena Obraztsova International Vocal Competition - Mariinsky Theatre soloist Olga Pudova (soprano), soloist of the Moscow Academic Musical Theatre of K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko Vladimir Dmitruk (tenor) and soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Venera Gimadieva (soprano). The vocalists will perform a program of Russian classical works accompanied by the renowned St. Petersburg group BIS-Quit. Vladimir Dmitruk together with guitarist Khristelin Kirillov will present a specially prepared arrangement of the RNP "Korobeiniki". On July 3, Venera Gimadieva will also perform in the Tribute Queen concert, where she will perform the legendary "Barcelona".

A separate block will be the performance of world-famous guitarists. Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" and "Dance with Sabers" from the ballet "Gayane" by A. Khachaturian will be performed by the very young Timofei Grigorovich. And Tchaikovsky's Barcarolle, Chernomor's March from the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila by M. Glinka and Dawn on the Moskva River by M. Mussorgsky will get a new reading thanks to Oleg Izotov. A special program will be performed by the band In Pravda. On July 3, Dmitry Chetvergov and Andrey Balin's Variety Symphony Orchestra will perform Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G Minor and Prokofiev's Suite "Montecchi and Capuletti". On the same day one of the most titled guitarists of Russia Roman Miroshnichenko will perform variations on the theme of "Polovtsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor" by A. Borodin.

Also on July 2 at 17.15 in Pavilion 16 the Elena Obraztsova Foundation will hold a free master class in academic vocal performance. The teacher will be the outstanding opera singer Olga Pudova.

Uniting Russian music lovers and musicians in one big project, taking into account different tastes, genre preferences and offering new readings of Russian academic music, classics of Russian rock, the Music Project "Russian Classics in Rock" is designed to preserve, strengthen and popularize the all-Russian cultural identity.

A press conference with the main stars of the festival will be held at the Igor Sandler Production Center (Potapovsky Lane, 3, bldg. 1) on June 30 at 17.00. Specially for the press representatives there will be a preview of some numbers of the program "Russian Classics in Rock".

Igor Sandler's Rock Music Festival was held for the first time in 2019 and united more than 50 music bands for more than 10,000 spectators. SANDLERFEST is the only festival in Russia that unites almost all directions of rock culture. The main task of the festival is to help young, advanced, progressive, modern, world-class bands, to give them a chance to show themselves and make themselves known. For the first time in Russia there will be "Tribute Festival" - world classics with symphonic orchestra - Metallica, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, ABBA, Queen, Depeche Mode, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as a big block "Russian classics in rock", rock classics performed by the best opera singers and guitarists of Russia, as well as bands from the USA, Cuba, Ireland, Greece, Israel, Bulgaria. Rock'n'Mob - the biggest rock band in the CIS for the first time will unite star vocalists and five hundred musicians who will simultaneously perform world rock hits.

The music project "Russian Classics in Rock" as part of the I. Sandler Progressive Rock Music Festival is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The project is organized by the Igor Sandler Foundation for the Support of Gifted Children and Youth and the Premier Art Agency.
